Abbey Gardens fireworks cancelled for a second year

Bury St Edmunds annual firework display in the abbey gardens won’t be going ahead this year it has been confirmed.

The event ran by the Round Table usually attracts hundreds of visitors whilst raising money for local charities and organisations.

Speaking on social media a spokesperson for the voluntary ran round table said “After a great deal of consideration, and due to the ongoing uncertainty regarding Covid restrictions this autumn, we have made the decision not to run the event this year. The event takes a significant amount of time to organise, at considerable cost. We are a group of volunteer fundraisers and unfortunately cannot commit to running the event given the current uncertain environment”.

The Round Table says they will be running their popular Santa Sleigh around the town and surrounding villages this year and will look to return the fireworks in November of 2022.
