Charity Firework display in Bury St Edmunds cancelled due to COVID-19 uncertainty

A Popular firework display in Bury St Edmunds has announced that it will cancel it’s display this year because of the uncertainty around COVID-19.

The annual round table Fireworks display, in the Abbey Gardens was due to take place on Saturday 7th November. The event usually attracts a large audience and proceeds from the event go to supporting local charities and organisations.

Organisers say that it was a tough decision but are already planning to extend the Santa Sleigh Run in the town and surrounding area.

A spokes person said “It is with regret that due to the current pandemic the annual Fireworks display in the Abbey Gardens is cancelled.

This is our biggest fundraising event of the year so it wasn’t an easy decision but we’re due to finalise plans for this years event over the next few months and with such uncertainty surrounding the current situation we’ve had to make this tough decision. We really enjoy putting the event on and seeing the joy it brings to the crowds, and in turn it is great to see the money raised goes back to local charities and organisations.

It’s not all bad news though as we are already planning on extending the already established Santa Sleigh Run in the town and surrounding area. Like the fireworks event all proceeds go to local charities. Depending on the Covid situation in December the sleigh run can be operated with social distancing measures in place. Santa, his sleigh and band of elves and snowmen pass through a number of the towns estates and streets and although most of the donations are given in cash form an online giving platform is likely to be available for this years event.”
