Detectives continuing to investigate following attempted sexual assault in Elveden

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances following the attempted sexual assault of woman in Elveden yesterday.

The incident occurred at some point between 11am and noon yesterday, Tuesday 9 November, along London Road, known locally as the old London Road/ old A11, junction from the A11 southbound towards Elveden Road.

The victim – a young woman – was out jogging along a footpath, where she was approached by male and assaulted. The woman was hit to the head and the male attempted to pull down her leggings. He then left the area in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as male, white, approximately 5ft 9ins tall, had brown stubble on his face and he was heard speaking with an English accent. He was also wearing a black puffer jacket with the hood up and was seen with a bike.

The woman, who was found unconscious and lying on the pavement by a member of the public, was taken via ambulance to hospital, where she was treated and later discharged.

Road closures and a scene remain in place in London Road and the nearby area while officers and forensic teams continue to carry out further work at the scene. The closures are expected to remain in place until tomorrow.

Superintendent Janine Wratten said: This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim who was just out enjoying a morning jog. Members of our community should be free to go about their daily lives without fear of being harassed or attacked. However, we know this incident will have caused great concern, but we want to offer reassurance by confirming that we are doing everything we can to try an identify the suspect as soon as possible.

“There will be a large police presence in Elveden and the surrounding area as the investigation team continues to establish the exact circumstances and we are grateful to any motorists who may experience any delays as a result of the road closures.

“We are also extremely grateful to those individuals who have already come forward with information but we are directly appealing to anyone else who may have witnessed a male matching this description in this area or nearby, particularly those people who use this route regularly for cycling or jogging and who may have noticed or seen a male wearing similar clothes in this area.”

Detectives would still like to hear from any witnesses who were in the London Road area, particularly between the slip road junction with the A11 southbound and the Elveden Road junction, either walking or cycling between 10am and 1pm yesterday, Tuesday 10 November, or any motorists that passed through and have a dashcam fitted in their vehicle.
