Homes and businesses left without internet or phone lines after cable stolen for the second time in a month

A large duct of underground cable has been stolen from Pakenham.

The 300m length of metal cable for fibre optic broadband has been stolen from Thurston Road at some point between 7.30pm on 4 April to 6.50am on 5 April.

A police spokesperson said “The cable is very heavy and would have required a vehicle and many people to lift it”.

The theft is being linked to a similar incident that happened on the same road in the village that took place between 5pm on 29 March and 7am on 30 March. Again, this involved the theft of an underground cable that was stolen between the entrance to Thurston Scrap & Car breakers in Thurston Road and the crossroads of The Street and Mill lane.

Any witnesses or anyone with information regarding either theft should contact Suffolk police quoting crime reference 37/18993/22 for the theft on 29/30 March or 37/20077/22 for the theft on 4/5 April.
