Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following axe attack in Clare

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an incident in Clare. Police were called at around 8.15pm on Saturday 19 March to the Bell Hotel on Market Hill, in the town, following reports a man had attacked a person with an axe.

The victim, a man aged in his 30s, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital having suffered a serious head injury. He remains in hospital where his condition is described as stable.
A 39-year-old man was arrested this morning, 20 March, in Bury St Edmunds on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre. He was subsequently further arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

A police cordon was in place while investigations took place, however, this has now been removed. While enquiries are at an early stage, police believe this is an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.
