RAF Mildenhall partially evacuated following discovery of an unexploded ordnance

Part of RAF Mildenhall was evacuated yesterday, Tuesday 4th August, after an unexploded ordnance was discovered.

More than 20 buildings on RAF Mildenhall were evacuated after the discovery during routine construction work near a hangar.

Crews from Mildenhall-based 100th Air Refueling Wing, the 48th Fighter Wing out of nearby Lakenheath and the U.K. Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Operations Centre worked to make the area safe before conducting a controlled explosion at around 4:15pm.

It was not clear how many devices were destroyed or what type of ordnance they were.
