Independents Week

As part of Independents Week, which ran between 4th and 10th July, RWSfm is teamed up with Ourburystedmunds to find the best independent business in the town.

The competition to find Bury St Edmunds’ favourite independent business has been won by one of the newest boutiques in town. Pocket Watch and Petticoats was voted the winner in the competition sponsored by community radio station RWSFM. Runners up were Raspberry Rascals and Buy the Light.

The competition was part of the Ourburystedmunds Independents’ Week run by the Business Improvement District to promote independent businesses. Chief Executive of Ourburystedmunds Mark Cordell said: “Independent businesses are vital to the economy of our town centre so I am very grateful to the team at RWSFM for their support of Independents’ Week and especially with this competition. It’s very pleasing that these three businesses are so highly thought of by the hundreds of people who voted.”

It’s a second such victory for Pocket Watch and Petticoats after its Ipswich branch won a similar type of competition in the county town earlier this year. Owner Sophia Norris said: “I pride myself on the service customers get when they visit my shop so I’m delighted so many wanted to vote for us. We’ll really appreciate the prize of an advertising package on the radio station, which will be especially valuable as a relatively new business in the town.”

Station manager at RWSFM Julie McLeod added: “The station is delighted to continue to support independent business in the town and I never fail to be impressed with the commitment, enthusiasm and hard work of the local people who run these businesses. Providing the winner of the competition with £500 worth of advertising on the radio station is a way of us saying well done and hopefully providing them with some tangible support that they may not normally be able to afford”
