A driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug-driving after being stopped by police in Bury St Edmunds for driving without insurance.
Officers from the Town Centre Team West stopped the motorist after spotting the vehicle being driven without insurance.
When speaking to the driver, officers detected a strong smell of cannabis coming from the car. A subsequent search uncovered cannabis inside the vehicle.
The driver then underwent a roadside drug test, which returned a positive result for cannabis.
He was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, possession of cannabis and driving without insurance.
Police said the incident was particularly concerning because the driver had been travelling along Rougham Road while hundreds of people, including children, were gathered nearby for the Rugby Club fireworks display.

The force said the driver’s actions had put other road users and members of the public at risk.
Officers have reminded motorists that drink and drug driving can have devastating consequences, urging people not to get behind the wheel while under the influence.
