Former RWSfm presenter Alex Jacques takes over as lead commentator for Channel 4’s F1 coverage

Former RWSfm 103.3 presenter Alex Jacques has taken over as the lead commentator for Channel 4’s coverage of Formula 1.

Alex presented Drivetime on RWSfm shortly after it was first launched in 2010. Since then he has gone to cover sport at BBC Radio Suffolk before moving to The Times newspaper as well as covering multiple sports for BBC radio stations and agencies.

In 2018 Alex moved into commentating on Formula 1 for F1TV.  He also joined BBC Radio 5 live for selected events including lead commentary for the 2019 British Grand Prix. In 2020 he commentated on 100 races and covered the Indy 500 for Sky and created a F1 Nation podcast.

Alex takes over the role from Ben Edwards who had been part of Channel 4’s coverage of the sport since it took over from the BBC in 2016, but announced last year that he was stepping down from the role at the end of the season.

RWSfm 103.3’s Station Manager Julie MacLeod said, “Alex was unique, with his wit and personality on and off-air, I am not surprised that he has progressed to television and sport was always his passion. He was part of our Drive team when we launched and shared the post with Alex Behan who has also gone on to work in television. We are very proud of them both”.
