Joel Andrews is an avid sports watcher, supporter, reporter and (when fit!) participant in just about any sport going—especially Football, Rugby, Cricket and Boxing.
His passion for sport has taken him everywhere from Lord’s Cricket Ground and Portman Road to far-flung sporting hotspots across Amsterdam, Belfast and even Bratislava. Whether it’s the grassroots grit of non-league football or the spectacle of the world’s biggest events, Joel follows it all with equal enthusiasm.
Music also plays a huge part in Joel’s life. A chaotic—but brilliant—trip to Leeds Festival in 2009 opened the door to a wonderfully eclectic mix of sounds. From Lethal Bizzle to Kings of Leon, with The Prodigy, Kaiser Chiefs and New Found Glory in between, his taste ranges widely and often ties back to sporting moments—tracks to hype up, celebrate or commiserate. He’s also a big fan of the ‘80s classics.
On “Kick Off The Weekend”, Joel brings his love of sport and storytelling together. The show builds the excitement for the weekend ahead in local sport, reflecting on recent results, sharing the latest news affecting local clubs and sportspeople, and spotlighting the fans who follow them. Expect plenty of sporting curiosities too—Joel has a soft spot for the oddities, records and memorable stats of years gone by.
Join Joel on Friday evenings from 6–8pm as he kicks off your weekend in style—bringing you the latest local sports news, results, stories and an uplifting mix of music.
