Man Arrested Following Serious Assault in Bury St Edmunds

A man has been arrested following a serious assault in Bury St Edmunds that left another man in critical condition.

Police were called to the St Olaves shopping precinct at 8:05pm on Saturday 26 July, after reports that a man in his 50s had been violently assaulted. Emergency services attended the scene, and the victim was found with a significant head injury.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, officers arrested a man in his 50s on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH). The suspect has been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

At this stage of the investigation, police believe the suspect and victim are known to each other, and they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
