Police Appeal After Woman Seen in Distress During Bury St Edmunds Incident

Police are appealing for information following a suspicious incident in Bury St Edmunds that has raised concerns for the welfare of a woman.

The incident occurred between 9.45pm and 10pm on Sunday, 11 May, on Mount Road near Tassel Road. A member of the public reported witnessing a struggle between a man and a woman, with the woman appearing to be in distress.

Officers responded promptly but were unable to locate anyone at the scene. At this stage, no one has come forward to report being the victim of a crime, and police have not been able to identify either of the individuals involved.

A search of the area was carried out and further enquiries will continue as officers work to determine exactly what happened.

The woman involved is only described as having long, light-coloured hair.

Detective Inspector Cat Thompson of West CID in Bury St Edmunds said:
“We do not want to cause any undue alarm in the local community, but it is important for us to establish the facts of what took place in Moreton Hall last night.
“It could be we have a situation where there is a victim of crime who has not yet contacted us, or alternatively this may all be a misunderstanding and no offence has occurred.
“I would urge either of the persons involved, or any other potential witnesses, to contact us as soon as possible.”

Police are asking anyone who was in the Mount Road area between 9.30pm and 10pm on Sunday and saw anything suspicious to come forward. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage from that time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact West CID at Bury St Edmunds Police Station quoting reference: 37/25463/25.
