Second dispersal order issued this weekend around the A134 Fornham bypass

A dispersal order has been issued in respect of a main road near Bury St Edmunds this weekend.

Following reports of dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour on and around the A134 Fornham bypass on Saturday 4 May, and intelligence suggesting another planned meeting, police have issued a dispersal order for this weekend under Sections 34/35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

This gives officers the power to exclude a person from an area for a period of up to 48 hours with an Inspector’s authority. The order is in place from 7pm on Friday 17 May until 6:59pm on Sunday 19 May.

Inspector Gary Miller, of the Roads and Armed Policing Team, said: “Police are dealing proactively with reports of dangerous driving and anti-social vehicle use in the area.

“This authority does not prevent legitimate use of the roads or businesses in the area, however any gatherings which commence will be required to disperse and anyone refusing to comply with the direction will be arrested.

“Officers will seize vehicles used in such circumstances on the highway under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.”
