Two men charged with drug offences in Bury St Edmunds

Two men have been charged with drug offences after being arrested in Bury St Edmunds by the west area Sentinel and Scorpion teams.

Officers witnessed what was believed to be an exchange between two men in Parkway in the town on 29 December.

A short time later a 22-year-old man was stopped and searched by officers and arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply (PWITS) Class A drugs. He was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Anil Cayir, 22, from Great Cambridge Road, Enfield, was subsequently charged with PWITS of a Class A controlled drug (crack cocaine), PWITS a Class A controlled drug (heroin), being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine, and being concerned in the supply of heroin.

He appeared at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on 30 December where he was further remanded by the court and is next due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 27 January.

A 52-year-old man was also stopped by officers. He was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B drugs and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre.

George Barr, 52, of Hospital Road, Bury St Edmunds, was subsequently charged with possession of a Class A controlled drug (crack cocaine), possession of a Class B controlled drug (amphetamine), and possession of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis).

He has been bailed and is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ court on 3 March.
