Woman seriously injured following East Gate Street collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious road traffic collision in Bury St Edmunds.

Officers were called at approximately 3:20pm yesterday, Thursday 26 January, to reports of a collision on Eastgate Street, where a white Kia was in collision with a red Fiat Punto.

The driver of the Punto – a woman aged in her 60s – sustained injuries that were not initially thought to be serious but are now considered to be potentially life changing.

No one else is reported to have been injured as a result of the incident.

Police, ambulance and the fire service all attended the scene and the road was closed to allow for a collision investigation to take place. It had reopened by 5:30pm.

Officers would like to hear from any witnesses to the collision, or anyone with information that may be of assistance to the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads and Armed Policing Team at Suffolk police, quoting CAD 231 of 26 January.
