UPDATE – Businesses are being warned of a potential distraction burglar

Local Businesses are being warned after a potential distraction burglary.

A man, who was wearing a hi-vis and carry a PDA device, visited a town centre shop in Bury St Edmunds on a Saturday at the beginning of this month and again on Sunday 27th May. On both occasions stated he wanted to read the meter but failed to produce any ID.

Today (Thursday 31st May) Our Bury St Edmunds has notified us that another businesses in Bury St Edmuinds has had a visit from two men (one 40’s-50’s the other much younger) who appear to be bogus water meter readers.

Michael Kirkham from Our Bury St Edmunds is urging businesses to check the ID, and “if in doubt don’t let them in” and to let the police know.

Mark Cordell from Our Bury St Edmunds has urged local businesses to be “vigilant at all times to anyone who seeks access to the “back office” area of your businesses.”
