Lidgate fatal explosion – Two people named locally

Emergency services remain at the scene of a house fire in Lidgate, during which two people died, who are being named locally as mum-of-three Pamela Tierney, in her 70s, and daughter Julie Tierney, in her 50s.

Police were contacted by the Fire Service at 12.15pm yesterday, Tuesday 7 May, following reports of multiple explosions at a property in The Street.

The building sustained significant damage and structural work needs to be undertaken to make it safe to enter.

Once this has been completed the process of search and recovery will commence and police and fire investigators will work to establish the cause of the explosions, which means formal identification may take a number of days.

The deaths remain unexplained, but at this time police do not believe that there is any third-party involvement.

There is no threat to the wider public and utility companies have attended the area to ensure the safety of local residents.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101 quoting reference CAD 122 of 7 May.
