Police are investigating after reports of a sexual assault in woodland in Bury St Edmunds.
Police received reports of a sexual and linked physical assault in the woods close to Cumberland Avenue in the early hours of Friday morning, 22nd January. Both the victim and suspect were known to each other.
The area was cordoned off for some time to allow Police Forensics to investigate the scene.
In a letter to councilor Diane Hind, Police Inspector Matt Paisley said “The suspect does not live locally, and other than to meet the victim on this occasion we do not believe he has any further cause to come to Bury.”
He reassured the public that there is no wider risk.
A 22-year-old man who was arrested has since been bailed with conditions attached.
