Man dies following collision between a bicycle and a car in Newmarket Road

A man has died following a road traffic collision in Bury St Edmunds.

Police were called at 6 pm yesterday evening, Monday 12 April, to reports of a collision involving a bicycle and a blue Nissan Qashqai in Newmarket Road, between the two junctions for Dettingen Way.

Paramedics and the air ambulance were also in attendance, but the cyclist – a man aged in his 60s – sadly died at the scene.

The road remained completely closed until 8.15 pm whilst a collision investigation took place and was fully reopened at around midnight, following the recovery of the car and the bicycle.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward, along with anyone driving in the area just prior to the incident who has a dashcam in their vehicle.
