Man dies and woman in critical condition following stabbing in Bury St Edmunds

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a stabbing in Bury St Edmunds.

Police were called at 3pm this afternoon, Tuesday 26 April, by a member of the public who believed a stabbing had taken place at a car park in Harland Court, off Station Hill.

Officers were immediately sent to the area and located a man and a woman within a flat who had both sustained stab wounds. The man, aged in his 40s, was declared deceased shortly after officers arrived.

The female victim – also aged in her 40s – has been taken to hospital for treatment to her injuries and is in a critical but stable condition.

At just after 3.30pm, a 38-year-old man from Bury St Edmunds was detained by officers in the vicinity of St John’s Street in connection with the incident and he was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses to the attack and would like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Harland Court between 2pm and 3pm.
