Police have charged a man from London with drugs offences after he was stopped in a vehicle in Bury St Edmunds.

Officers from the Sentinel West ANPR team had cause to stop the vehicle in Bedingfeld Way on Tuesday 3 October. Both the driver and vehicle were searched which resulted in the discovery of a quantity of what was believed to be Class A drugs, as well as an amount of cash.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, was arrested and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Eriks Dervishi, 22, of High Road, London, was subsequently charged with possession with intent to supply (PWITS) a controlled Class A drug (cocaine), and use of a motor vehicle without insurance.

He appeared at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 4 October, where he pleaded guilty to the driving offence. He was fined £200, handed six penalty points and given further financial penalties by the court totalling £185.

He was remanded by the court for the PWITS charge and is due to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on 1 November.
