Three men have been arrested after a vehicle stop by police led to the discovery of a cannabis growing operation in Brandon.

On Friday 1 May at around 4pm police officers from the Roads and Armed Policing Team had cause to stop a VW Golf car on the B1106 at Culford in order to carry out driver and vehicle checks. A quantity of cash (£1350) was recovered from the occupants. The 27-year-old male driver from Dagenham was arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation, money laundering and driving a vehicle without valid motor insurance and was taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning. The VW car was seized by police.

The driver was released under investigation in connection with these offences but was further detained under the European Arrest Warrant and was remanded in custody to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on Monday 4 May.

The passenger in the car, a man in his 20s, was also arrested on suspicion of money laundering. He was subsequently released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

Following these arrests officers obtained information regarding an address in West Drive, Brandon that was reportedly being used for cannabis cultivation. Police conducted a search warrant at the property on Saturday 2 May and discovered an established cannabis growing business. A 23-year-old man was arrested outside the address on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs.

Officers have now recovered more than 100 cannabis plants and drugs paraphernalia from the premises.

The man has been bailed to appear before Ipswich Magistrates Court on 24 May 2020.
