Police issue advice following attempted distraction burglary in Bury St Edmunds

Police are urging residents to stay vigilant to cold callers after an incident in Bury St Edmunds.
 
It took place on Thursday 15 April at about 10 am at a property on Cornfield Road.

An unknown male called at the door of a home where an elderly woman, aged in her 80s, lived and made a claim he was from the bank and that she was to transfer money to a bank account. The elderly victim told the male to leave which he did and no money was taken. The suspect is described as a white male, aged about 50 years old, about five feet, five inches tall, and was of a slim build.
 
Anyone who has knowledge of who the person was or who has experienced a similar scenario should contact Bury St Edmunds CID, quoting crime number 37/18834/21.

– Always use your door chain and spy hole viewer
– Never open your door unless you know who it is  
– Always ask for identification before opening the door. If in doubt keep them out
– Put a sign on your door saying ‘No Cold Callers’
