A new sculpture has been unveiled in the Abbey Gardens as part of the Abbey 1000 Sculpture Exhibition, organised by Melanie Lesser. ‘St Edmund’s Head’, has been made by West Suffolk College students using coloured electrical cabling.
The artwork was inspired by local artist Sybil Andrews’ tapestry, which is on display in St Edmundsbury Cathedral, as well as work by the artist Giacometti & medieval paintings.
The sculpture was funded with locality grants from Bury St Edmunds Town Councillors Diane Hind, Cliff Waterman, Marilyn Sayer & Donna Higgins, together with West Suffolk Councillor David Nettleton.
