Trial Date Confirmed for Bury St Edmunds Manslaughter Suspect

A man accused of manslaughter following an incident in Bury St Edmunds has appeared again before the crown court.

Andrew Allen, 54, of Severn Road, Bury St Edmunds, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Wednesday 27 August, a day after being formally charged with manslaughter.

Allen was originally charged with causing grievous bodily harm after a man was assaulted at the St Olaves Precinct on Saturday 26 July. The victim, later confirmed as 56-year-old Scott Lisney from Bury St Edmunds, sadly died at West Suffolk Hospital. His death will be confirmed at forthcoming inquest proceedings.

At Wednesday’s hearing, the court granted Allen conditional bail. A provisional trial date has been scheduled for 19 October 2026.

The family of Mr Lisney paid tribute to him, saying:

“We are saddened by the sudden loss of our Scott, who was a much-loved son, brother, father and uncle.

“He was a kind-hearted man who would do anything for anybody and was a much-loved character in the community who was full of fun and a smart and snappy dresser, well known for wearing his suits.

“We are all feeling a strong sense of loss from the hole that has been left but we would like to thank everybody for their kind words.

“We would now request time to grieve at this difficult moment.”
