A man has been jailed after being convicted of drug offences with links to Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.
26 year old Fabien Joe of Anselm Avenue in Bury St Edmunds was sentenced to 59 months in prison today (Wednesday 14 July) at Ipswich Crown Court for being concerned in the supply of heroin, crack cocaine, and being in possession of a blade. He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing.
Officers from the Met police attended a property on Wed 26 May in Ilford as part of Operation Orochi and arrested him on suspicion of being concerned in supplying class A drugs and he was taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Joe was charged with being concerned in the supply of heroin and crack cocaine – both between April and May 2021 – and also possession of a knife in a public place.
Evidence showed Joe dealt class A drugs under the moniker of the “Josh” line business – which he set up two days in April 2020 after coming out of prison for serving a sentence for possession with intent to supply drugs, namely crack cocaine and heroin. Through complex investigative tactics the Serious Crime Disruption Team established that he was controlling the line business and was organising the flow of crack/heroin into Bury St. Edmunds between April 2020 and April 2021 before his arrest. When arrested Joe was found to be in possession of a knife and he also had a large quantity of cash.
DC Jared Fortune of the Serious Crime Disruption Team said: “”I was delighted to hear in his letter to the judge that Mr Joe’s apprehension and subsequent punishment may be the very catalyst to turn him from being a law breaker and allow him to implement becoming a force for good. In light of this, I’d iterate to all those involved in organised drug supply that not only do you generate devastation in our communities, you create misery for yourselves when we undoubtedly catch you; it’s in your own interest to seek a lawful alternative.”
The SCDT core aim is to disrupt serious and organised gangs whose criminal activity focuses on issues such as drug supply and harmful personal acquisitive crime such as robbery/burglary. The team develop the relevant information and intelligence, conduct enforcement activity and then provide an officer who will build the case and see the investigation through to trial.
The activity to arrest Patterson formed part of Operation Orochi, led by the Metropolitan Police. This has been in place in Suffolk since February 2020.
