Corrie McKeague inquest concludes he died after getting into bin

An inquest has concluded RAF gunner Corrie McKeague died after climbing into a bin which was tipped into a waste lorry.

The 23-year-old vanished following a night out in Bury St Edmunds in September 2016.

The body of Mr McKeague, who was from Dunfermline, was never found despite extensive searches, and his family have had to wait more than five years for an official conclusion.

The inquiry said alcohol likely impaired his judgement, and that there was an “ineffective search of the bin”.

It was concluded he died around 4.20am in Bury St Edmunds as a result of “compression asphyxia in association with multiple injuries”.
