Police cordon off alleyway in Bury St Edmunds following serious sexual assault

A police scene is currently in place in Bury St Edmunds following a report of a serious sexual assault.

Officers on duty in the town centre were approached at just before 3am this morning, Sunday 4 December, and informed of the incident.

The victim, a woman aged in her 20s, subsequently reported being attacked in an alleyway between King’s Road and the Waitrose car park off Robert Boby Way, at some time between midnight and 2.30am.  

A cordon has been put in place at the crime scene whilst police enquiries take place. The victim is being supported by specialist trained officers, as efforts to identify and locate the suspect is underway.

Detectives would like to hear from any potential witnesses, in particular anyone who was in the vicinity of the car park and surrounding roads who may have seen or heard anything.
