Students enjoy new fitness suite thanks to Active Suffolk funding

Students at County High School have begun benefitting from a new state-of-the-art fitness suite.

A range of gym equipment has been opened up to students at the Bury St Edmunds secondary school, thanks to funding from Active Suffolk’s Opening Schools Facilities.

Nick Leppard, Faculty Leader of PE at the school, said: “We are hugely grateful to Active Suffolk for supporting this fantastic project which has huge physical and mental benefits.

“Our students love the new fitness suite which is open to them before and after school, at lunchtimes and in relevant lessons.”

James Payne, Senior Development Officer at Active Suffolk, said: “We’re delighted that the funding provided has been used to create a brand-new fitness space within the school that includes specialist equipment such as rowing machines, treadmills and cross trainers.

“It is fantastic that this new space has enabled the school to create opportunities for all students to participate in a wide variety of activities.

“It has allowed them to seek and then act on their student’s voice which highlighted concerns regarding the removal of barriers to female students’ active participation, by making sure that the space can also be used by them to exercise and socialise without being in view of others.

“Active Suffolk look forward to continuing to work with the school to promote the legacy of this new space over the coming years and to support further development opportunities in the future.”
