A Volunteer at West Suffolk Hospital met the queen yesterday.
Ron Knight, 88, who has volunteered at the hospitals eye clinic for the last ten years, met the queen at a Windsor Castle reception honouring the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.
Ron -who has lost his wife, daughter and a grandson in the last ten years -says being an NHS volunteer âsaved himâ and has given him as much pleasure as it has the patients and staff he helps.
Ron reckons he has at least another ten years work in him.
The Queen met 87-year-old who has volunteered at West Suffolk Hospital three days a week for 10 years. Ron found out about volunteering when he went to visit a friend in hospital. He says volunteering changed his life and helped him following the death of his wife.
